A RESEARCH PROJECT ON DANCE

Dance is fleeting in its very nature. The movement is gone in the same instant as it is created. What remains are its resonating traces within us. 'Bevara Rörelse' (Perpetuate Motion) is a research and archival project documenting people's experiences of dance. A collaboration between Skånes Dansteater and archivist Celine Orman challenging and developing methods for preserving and archiving dance as an artform.

The project consists of interviews with audiences, dancers and creative teams in order to gather experiences, ideas and intentions of a dance work. The interviews with creators and dancers are conducted during the creation of a performance. The interviews with audiences are conducted after they have seen the performance.

Through 'Bevara Rörelse' a more multifacetted archive of contemporary artistic creation. The documentation will be archived in The Music and Theatre Library of Sweden (Musik- och Teaterbiblioteket) , a part of Musikverket (Swedish Performing Arts Agency) and lay the ground for future research and re-stagings.

DansFunk Festival: Aesthetics of Access, 8-14 november 2022.

Som en av landets ledande aktörer inom dans och funktionsvariationer bjuder Skånes Dansteater in till vår fjärde DansFunk-festival på temat "Aesthetics of Access".

”Aesthetics of Access” är ett nytt sätt att se på tillgänglighet inom scenkonsten. Här begränsas inte tillgängligheten till ett antal tilläggstjänster för personer med olika funktionsvariationer. Den får i stället påverka och ta plats under hela den kreativa processen och i själva föreställningen.

”Aesthetics of Access” handlar inte bara om att ge fler människor möjlighet att ta del av en scenkonstupplevelse, synsättet förhöjer föreställningsupplevelsen för alla och utvecklar scenkonsten. I höstens DansFunk undersöker vi begreppet genom att visa en föreställning, ge workshoppar och bjuda in till en halvdagskonferens som också streamas.

Vi har bjudit in det tyska kompaniet Un-Label Performing Arts Company som har arbetat med inkluderande konstnärligt arbete under många år. Genom att utmana vedertagna begrepp om kropp, rum och samhälle utvidgar de normer och konventioner inom samtida scenkonst.

SWEDEN'S COMPETITION FOR YOUNG CHOREOGRAPHERS

Skapa dans (Create Dance) is an annual national choreography contest for young persons between the age 14–22. The purpose of the competition is to encourage the creation of dance and present the creativity and ability within the younger non-professional community involved in dance of various genres and levels. Since the focus is on choreography and not technique all genres and styles are welcome to compete. Skapa Dans is an opportunity for young dance talents to share and connect with the community devoted to dance.

The competition consists of regional finals, at for example Skånes Dansteater, where the winning choreography goes on to the national final in Stockholm. The competitions take place live on stage with an audience. The competition's jury consists of choreographers and dance professionals from all over Sweden.

Application deadline for contestants: September 26.
Regional final Skåne: Saturday October 15, 18:00 at Skånes Dansteater.

Skapa Dans is a collaboration between Skånes Dansteater and Riksteatern Skåne.

A Creative Europe project 2018–2022 in collaboration with The European Union.

Europe Beyond Access gives you the opportunity to see even more innovative international dance in Skåne. The project will support European disabled dance artists by creating opportunities for professional development within dance and choreography – and recognise the importance of inclusive performing arts practices in the development of dance as an artform.

As a dance institution Skånes Dansteater has for many years been ground breaking by including a diversity of bodies on stage. Through Europe Beyond Access this work will continue to develop and deepen. We will be able to enjoy guest performances, unique collaborations and activities such as dance workshops and talks.

Dance workshops for persons with Parkinsons disease and their companions

In collaboration with Mark Morris Dance Company Skånes Dansteater offers dansworkshops for persons with Parkinsons disease.

In these worshops, which last 1 hour and 15 mins, participants are empowered to explore movement and music in ways that are refreshing, enjoyable, stimulating and creative. The tempo and content is tailored for this specific purpose. You are very welcome to bring a companion who also can participate in the workshop.

The workshops are led by trained dancers from Skånes Dansteater. We end the workshops with sharing some refreshments together.

About Skånes Dansteater's Dance for PD project

Skånes Dansteater has since January 2016, in collaboration with Mark Morris Dance Company, offered Dance for PD workshops, for persons with Parkinsons disease. The workshops originated from an initiative from Skånes Dansteater's dancers Patrick Bragdell Eriksson and Laura Lohi.

The project began with an invitation to David Levinthal, dancer from Mark Morris Dance Group in New York, to come to Malmö. He trained our company dancers in how to teach dance for Parkinsons workshops. Since the initial training in spring 2016 we have been giving dance for Parkinsons workshops twice per month with a steady increase in the number of participants.

Bring your ideas, traditions and experiences to SWOP Dance Club! The club is a space for meetings and exchange of cultures and people, bringing together young new residents and young people living in Skåne. Together we embrace the rich diversity of cultures and backgrounds.

We meet every other Monday to talk and dance together. The club is free of charge and you can come as often as you want.

Have a closer look at Skånes Dansteater!

During a study visit at Skånes Dansteater we give you a tour of the theatre and our fascilities and provide you with insight into the daily work routines of our theatre. We finish with a visit in one of our studios for a look at our sixteen dancers at work.

Study visits are given before noon on weekdays.

A study visit is given free of charge and takes approximately 45 mins. The content of the visit and focus points are planned together with you.
