Jessica Helbach is a Dutch designer and one of the co-creators behind ‘Out of the Blue’. In this episode Jessica talks about her role as a costume designer and about her process: starting broad then getting down to the details. She also speaks about co-creating the world of ‘Out of the Blue’ with all its historical references, colours and textures, and the language of her collaboration with choreographer, Anouk van Dijk.
‘Out of the Blue‘ is a collaboration between Skånes Dansteater, Malmö Opera Orchestra and Malmö Opera Children's Chorus. The work premiered at Malmö Opera 4 December 2021.

We chat to Tina Tarpgaard about her latest work for Skånes Dansteater, ‘Vår Dag’. Tina is a Danish choreographer and founder of Recoil performance group based in Copenhagen. In this episode, she talks about making the durational dance experience that is ‘Vår Dag’; how we need to value a broader spectrum of dance; and the energy she gets from meeting people and doing dance in different social contexts. Anouk van Dijk is a Dutch choreographer, director and the creator of Countertechnique. In this episode, she talks about the underlying themes in the work ‘Out of the blue’. The performance is a carnival of colour that celebrates the power of the imagination and the resilience to adapt.
She explains some of the rationale behind her movement system Countertechnique and emphasises the power of distraction, the inherent creativity of technique, and she discusses the kind of tasks and tools she uses to feel in the moment. She also touches on longevity and her extraordinary love of dance and dedication to it.

Roser López Espinosa creates a lively and playful physical universe of refined poetic imagery, intense teamwork, and, very often with a touch of humour. Roser introduces you to her duet 'Fine Lines'.
The work is a danced dialogue between two outstanding women who are constantly challenging and pushing each other. 'Fine Lines' was premiered in the Netherlands in 2020 as part of Mixed Doubles, a programme of duets produced with our partners in the project Europe Beyond Access. It will tour internationally and perform at Skånes Dansteater in November 2021.

Celine Orman works as a dance archivist at Skånes Dansteater and is the project manager for Bevara rörelse (Preserve Movement), a project that raises many intriguing questions about dance. About its past, present och future. About the inherent volatility.

Macros introduces you to Djurens karneval, The Carnival of the Animals, a performance for all adventurous souls from school age and up set to Camille Saint- Saëns’s classic masterpiece. Fabio Liberti, choreographer and dancer, introduces you to his new piece NOOK. An outdoor production for 7 dancers that will perform in parks around Malmö and Lund.
In NOOK dancing bodies become a building collective. A few weeks before premiering Fabio and host Samuel Denton talk about our ability to adapt to change and our need to create small tribes. Fabio also share his thoughts on the physicality of NOOK and on being transparent as a leader in the dance studio.

Madeleine Månsson took a different route than many on her journey towards a professional career as a dancer. A former social worker who found dance as an adult. Madeleine has toured around the world with the highly acclaimed duet Dare to Wreck. Today she is working on a new solo with choreographer Carl Knif called Vinterresa.
Madeleine shares how she uses translation in her creative work and teaching – and the importance of having a community of disabled artists for support, inspiration and everything else that keeps her dancing.

Tilman O’Donnell, choreographer and dancer, introduces you and host Kit Brown to his new work The View From Here. The piece presents us with a community of eight dancers entangled with and defining procedures of change – corporeal, spatial, and temporal.
The episode is an in-depth conversation about the inseparable nature of what dancers do in the dance studio and what they eventually perform on stage. About trying to find a sweet spot between structure and freedom, and the basic aim to pay attention and resist one’s assumptions.

Mari Carrasco, choreographer and creator of the new work Remind Me I’m Not Dead, and choreographic assistant Stacey Aung join host Kit Brown. The intensely physical work for ten dancers premieres with a live-streamed performance in just a few weeks, in a gallery-like setting with a vast LED screen hanging above the dancers.
An episode about dealing with doubts during creating, about being a lonely cowboy looking at things from a distance. To exist between two worlds. Heidi Vierthaler, freelance choreographer and teacher of the Stream-Flow movement method, is joining Skånes Dansteater and host Samuel Denton. Heidi talks about reaching a point in her career where she both gets to develop her own work, work with other artists in multidisciplinary projects and teach.

Lidia Wos’ work 'Snapshots of a Crowd' was supposed to be performed as a part of Skånes Dansteater’s Lunch dance programme this December, but due to current covid-19 restrictions it was filmed instead. The full performance is available here until 31 March 2021.
