MATS EK & ANA LAGUNA
Choreographer, stage director and dancer Mats Ek has for forty years been a highly esteemed choreographer throughout the world. He was the artistic director of the Cullberg Ballet 1985–1993, during which time he created more than twenty works for the company, among them sensational reworkings of classics like Giselle (1982), Swan Lake (1987) and Carmen (1992). His extensive production of choreographies includes celebrated works for The Royal Dramatic Theatre, Dramaten and the Royal Opera in Stockholm as well as with the Paris Opera and Nederlands Dans Theater among many others.
Dancer and actress Ana Laguna was a dancer in the Cullberg Ballet for twenty years. She originated roles in important works by Birgit Cullberg and Mats Ek as well as by Jirí Kylián, Nacho Duato, Ohad Naharin and William Forsythe. She has appeared on practically every major stage in the world and been awarded numerous honors including Premio Nacional de Danza (Spain) and Golden Carina Ari Medal (Sweden).
Mats and Ana have been a couple for 35 years and will perform two duets together: Potato and Memory, choreographed by Mats Ek.
DANCE ON
DANCE ON is dedicated to the value of age in dance. Based in Berlin, DANCE ON focuses on the artistic excellence of dancers aged 40+. Under the artistic direction of Christopher Roman and working with internationally renowned choreographers and directors, the DANCE ON ENSEMBLE creates its own repertoire. DANCE ON 1st EDITION’s desire is to effect a major change in dance, namely that choreographies for and with experienced dancers becomes common rather than the exception. They will here perform their new work Those specks of dust by choreographer Kat Valastur and two solos from 7 DIALOGUES artistic direction and composition by Matteo Fargion.
