Belonging is a vibrant testimony of what it means to be a fellow human being.
Belonging is a new double-bill about the possibilities and impossibilities of community, of us existing together. A collective housing both the protecting and comforting ones, and the suspicious and bullying ones. Two choreographers, each creating new dance works out of the complex desire to belong.
Reviews
"A velvety dark piece of its very own, about the beauty of humanity's laborious attempts at living together side by side." Sydsvenskan
”The piece is brave and honest with a beautiful and with a sense of compassionate between the participants which is a joy to watch.” Skånska Dagbladet
"A beautiful and intriguing experience." Det Händer
"patterns of movement making the whole stage resonate" Danstidningen
"The choreography alternates between dancing in total silence and dynamic cascades, evolving into beautiful patterns or focusing on individual details. /.../ (Choreographer) Hernandez masters the group dynamic and the company's 17 dancers move with assertiveness and precision." Svenska Dagbladet
”a thought-provoking and slightly alarming work” Kristianstadsbladet
About the performance
Belonging takes you from nostalgic landscapes to more abstract worlds. British choreographer Ben Wright’s (the feeling of going) new To find a way with one another, is inhabited by erratic individuals, mingling together in a scenic reality. Professional and non-professional dancers, a crowd of bodies, mirroring the world off stage meet on Malmö Opera’s stage. To the tones of Maurice Ravel’s waltzes Valses nobles et sentimentales and La Valse, dancers are driven to reveal their differences, layer by layer.
American choreographer David Hernandez creates Lonely Hunter his first work for Skånes Dansteater, offering a suggestive creation. Fifteen amazing dancers swirl, rock and swing into and out of their collective to newly composed music by young acclaimed composer Szymon Brzóska. Leaving brief traces that are as fleeting as we are.
