Anders Ortman

Anders Ortman is a composer, multi-instrumentalist and sound designer based in Malmö. He composes predominantly music for theatre and dance, as well as musical drama, and has extensive experience. Born in Karlskrona, he moved to Gävle in the 90s, and became music director at Folkteatern i Gävleborg and Skottes Music Theatre. Since moving to Skåne in 1999, he has worked in many different theatres, both independent groups such as Teater 23 and Månteatern, and institutions.

Anders is perhaps best known to Malmö audiences as the resident composer at Malmö Stadsteater for many years, where he composed the music for Snövit and Carmen - a chamber play about love among many others. In recent years he has also composed and done sound design at Helsingborg Stadsteater, most recently for the children's show Jordbok winter 2025.

He has also composed several chamber operas, preferably for younger audiences, including a new production of his Önskningarnas ö, with a libretto by Olle Törnqvist, at Estrad Norr in autumn 2024.

In 2011, the performance Svansjön premiered in Sundsvall, a collaboration between Norrdans, Teater Västernorrland and the Nordic Chamber Orchestra (conductor Fredrik Burstedt), with newly composed music by Anders, based on Tchaikovsky. Since then he has collaborated with the Nordic Chamber Orchestra several times, and recorded music for performances for Theatre Västernorrland.
