The body as a force

Do you ever feel as though reality is slipping through your fingers? According to the Portuguese writer, choreographer, and theatre-maker Diana Niepce, nothing is coincidental. Even the most incomprehensible chaos follows a pattern.

Diana Niepce’s performance Hornfuckers examines how political and social systems shape our behavior. Who are we? How free are we really? The result is a physical, provocative choreography that questions universal principles. As Diana Niepce puts it: ‘We play a game of obedience, following a logic that questions hierarchy.’

Presenting the body not as a passive object, but as a force that reacts to a world out of balance, Diana Niepce shifts the perspective from being a passive figure to a resilient one. Stereotypes are challenged and the laws of gravity are defied. With visual poetry and without shying away from the power of violence, Hornfuckers offers a dance experience where the body is constantly confronted with its limits and its boundlessness. In a universe governed by order and chaos, submission, and rebellion, Hornfuckers questions what we are, what is imposed on us, and how a seemingly life-sustaining system can also be a source of uncertainty and oppression.

The guest performance Hornfuckers is and a part of Europe Beyond Access (Culturgest, Skånes Dansteater, Project Arts Centre, CODA Oslo International Dance Festival, Holland Dance Festival, Kampnagel Hamburg, Mercat de les Flors - Casa de la Dansa, Onassis Stegi, Oriente Occidente Rovereto IT, and ZAMEK Culture Centre) financed by the European Union's Creative Europe Programme. 

Hornfuckers is co-funded by DDD - Festival Dias da Dança; deSingel International Arts Center and Un Label. Co-produced in residency: O Espaço do Tempo, Teatro-Cine de Torres Vedras.
