Malmö Dance Week: InTentions - Rebecca Livaniou

In InTension, we meet Rebecca Livaniou in a dance solo that moves in several directions atonce, without revealing its logic in advance. Inspired by her experiences from the hip-hop battle scene – where something is at stake inevery moment – she creates a captivating physical monologue in which each movementcarries its own energy and intensity.

‍Just beneath the surface, an inner movement can be sensed, where contradictions andsubtle shifts make themselves known. Moods and emotions gradually drift out of place,opening up a more ambiguous state. Here, it is not about defeating someone else, but aboutovercoming one’s doubts and taking space – in front of others and oneself.

InTension is her first stage solo production, created in close collaboration with musicproducer Kevin Wedin/12Twelve, costume designer Amanda Wisselgren, and lightingdesigner Thabiso Kubheka Persson. Together, they create a shifting space where dancebecomes something to reflect oneself in.

ABOUT REBECCA LIVANIOU

Rebecca Livaniou is a dancer and choreographer whose artistic practice is rooted in hip hop,street, and club dances. Active in the Swedish battle and hip hop scene since 2011, she hasmade a strong mark both in Scandinavia and internationally. Her work moves between stageperformance and hip hop culture.

Her practice is shaped by experiences of in-betweenness and longing for belonging,informed by her perspective as a Black artist born and raised in Sweden. Throughmovement, she explores how the body carries memory, pressure, and experiences ofdisplacement, transforming them into rhythm, form, and presence. Improvisation andembodied research are central to her work.
