Identity and collective memory

With "Echoes Through Time...Land" Kyrie Oda explores universal questions of belonging, survival, identity, and collective memory. At the center of the project is the question of how Indigenous knowledge systems and communal ways of living might guide us toward new forms of freedom, care, and collective responsibility.

Inspired by the understanding that “it takes a village to raise a child,” the work explores how community-based knowledge, intergenerational relationships, and shared responsibility can be experienced through performance and carried into everyday life beyond the stage.

As part of the creative process, we have had a residency at Jillat Sámi Danscenter, and we will also undertake research residencies in Hokkaido and Yoron, Japan, where we will learn from and explore the knowledge and traditions of the Indigenous populations of these islands.

Length: 25–30 minutes of a working-process performance, followed by a conversation with the audience -questions and answers, sharing experiences, and reflections around the work and the research process.

• People of all ages, with a particular focus on parents and grandparents attending with their children or grandchildren
• Foreigners and people who identify as a minority in the country
• Anyone interested in questions of belonging, community, identity, and collective memory

About Kyrie Oda

Kyrie Oda is a dancer and choreographer whose practice has developed across the United States, Japan and Europe. Since moving to Sweden in 2017, she has worked with several Swedish companies and choreographers, while her international experience spans opera, contemporary dance, performance and interdisciplinary stage work. Her artistic background brings together precision, curiosity and a broad understanding of movement across cultures and contexts.
