Syllables of Recorded Time

A dance performance about then, now & later

Based around a Shakespearean motif, Syllables of Recorded Time is an intergenerational ensemble exploration of the concept of time where sound transforms into vision, and vision into sound. A visual music of movement, words and tones created in the heat of the moment in a landscape of evolving shapes and meanings.

The dance is embodying our mental constructs of time in our daily lives, in our living spaces, and in our imagination. What is a moment? What is an eternity? Is time moving forward in a straight line, or in circles? The performance weaves together past, present and future as the dancers form a “Poor Man’s Orchestra”, creating the music they are dancing to in interactions with a musical scenography.

About SpaceTimeLab

SpaceTimeLab is a performing arts collective based in Malmö working at the intersection of dance, drama, music and voice. The company develops works for the stage where the narrative is an interplay between body, language, sound and space. This work traces its roots to a collaboration with Yoshi Oïda from Peter Brook’s CICT where presence, listening and the living moment are points of departure for an interdisciplinary creative process. 

In Skåne, the group has produced works since 2018 such as the art film Cosmic Space, the site specific WaveShapes for the city of Helsingborg and the trilogy World at War.
