Dealing with crisis

Choreographer Philippe Blanchard and Skånes Dansteater have initiated an exploratory project on how the performing arts can assume a more active and accountable role in addressing the current ecological crisis. Our questioning moves beyond emissions data and towards a critical reflection on the ethical dimensions of our methodologies.

Together with six dancers the team are developing a dance work inspired by the philosophical concept of opacity as formulated by Édouard Glissant. The work invites us to consider the weave — a tapestry of relations, histories, and gestures that resist fixed meaning. As we explore this concept through performance, we ask: Can dance, as a fleeting, embodied form offer a way of thinking that is ecologically attuned, relationally grounded, and politically urgent?
