Workshop Series: Embodied Archives
How do our bodies carry the histories of those who came before us? Two free workshops led by MA students Johannes Purovaara och Petros Mandalos at Malmö Theatre Academy.
Migratory stories
This workshop series investigates how migratory backgrounds, affective memory, and inter-generational knowledge emerge through movement and somatic practices.
Johannes Purovaara and Petros Mandalos invite you to a collaborative research residency at Skånes Dansteater to explore how these hidden histories live within our bodies. Their work is rooted in the understanding that the body is a living archive, carrying biographical and political legacies that surface through the simplest actions. They focus specifically on the power of the minimal gesture to reveal deep, lived experiences. By isolating a single movement, we listen to the affective memory it holds and allow a story to emerge through physical expression rather than words.
The residency-workshop traces a path from quiet reflection toward shared expression. We begin by seeking the subtle gestures of those who came before us, experimenting with the scale and volume of these actions. By expanding from the most minute traces to movements that fill the entire room, we transform individual migratory histories and inherited memories into a collective form of choreographic knowledge.
