The autobiography of the body

With Skånes Dansteater’s community dancers, who are all over 60 years of age, and choreographer Gwyn Emberton co-create Jag minns mig själv – a deeply personal and immersive performance that uncovers the long-forgotten histories that lie deep within the body. Through movement and shared experience, the thirteen dancers draw out memories that have long been etched into their muscles, gestures, and breath. 

You are invited to join them on a journey that traces imprints of joy, hurt, hope, love and loss – not with words, but through their moving bodies. 

Jag minns mig själv is where memory is not just recalled but re-experienced. The stories that are revealed are those rarely seen on stage, challenging conventions about who gets to dance, what dance can be, and whose experiences are allowed to be seen and shared.

The performance on 27 November is followed by a post-show talk with the performers, moderated by ex-Skånes Dansteater dancer Anette Jellne.

Each year, Skånes Dansteater presents a week-long dance festival, each edition shaped around a different theme or community. The festival creates space for voices and bodies rarely seen on the dance theatre stage, always featuring members of diverse dance communities. 

Jag minns mig själv premiers as part of DANSA FÖR EVIGT, a festival celebrating lives lived through the body, in movement and dance. Alongside this performance, the festival features guest performances, talks and a club night, bringing together intergenerational communities across Malmö.
