DancePod Live: Won't stop dancing

Join dancer Sam Denton, as he discusses with former Skånes Dansteater dancers how they are defying the prevailing conventions that a dancer’s career ends at 40.

A part of DancePod with Skånes Dansteater.

Too old to dance?!

Our dancer Sam Denton meets Anette Jellne, Jan Vesala and Laura Cheesman - dancers born in three different decades - in a conversation about the challenges they face to keep dancing for longer, and how the working conditions and practices for dancers have and continue to change to make this happen.

The conversation is recorded and is part of DancePod with Skånes Dansteater and the dance theatre's 30th anniversary.

About Dansa för evigt

The festival DANSA FÖR EVIGT (Dance forever) is a celebration of lives lived through the body; of the artistry, presence, and perspectives that can only come from a lifetime experienced through movement and dance.

DANSA FÖR EVIGT places older dancers and their voices centre stage – valuing their experience and imagination as equal to the vitality of a younger dancing body.

With a brand-new production by Skånes Dansteater’s 60+ dance community, performances by world-renowned guest artists, conversations with current and former Skånes Dansteater dancers who are defying societal norms, and a DJ-led afterwork club, this festival is a place for different generations to meet, move and be moved.

Here, older bodies are not hidden – they are luminous. Older perspectives are not “outdated” – they are vital. This is dance as a living archive, a dialogue across time, and a reminder that experience is not the opposite of innovation but its foundation.
