Workshop: Dance Joy for seniors

35:00

An online dance and movement workshop, specially designed for care homes and social centres for older people.

The workshop is offered by Skånes Dansteater and led by Laura Lohi and Celine Orman. Laura is a professional dancer, formerly part of Skånes Dansteater’s permanent ensemble, with 10 years’ experience of leading dance sessions for older people. She is also a registered physiotherapist. Celine is a somatic movement educator and dance therapist with experience of dance for people with dementia through the EU project PerFare in Malmö City.

The workshop is free of charge and can be used whenever and however you like, in care homes, community centres for older people or at home.

Good to know

  • We’ll dance together for about 35 minutes and explore different ways of moving.
  • We’ll suggest various movements, but feel free to dance in your own way.
  • Listen to your body and dance according to how you’re feeling today.
  • You can also just rest now and then and listen to the music.
  • Draw inspiration from the music and from each other.

What to do beforehand:

  • Please sit in a circle or semi-circle around the screen so that everyone can see each other.
  • All the exercises are designed to be done either sitting or standing. If possible, make sure there’s enough space so that everyone taking part can stretch their arms out in all directions.
  • If possible, in a care home, have at least one or two members of staff present who are actively taking part and providing support where needed.

Would you like to keep dancing?

Laura and Celine have put together a playlist on Spotify for more dancing:
