Sharing: Dodzi Dougban
For two weeks in March, German dancer Dodzi Dougban will be in artistic residence at Skånes Dansteater to work on his solo performance, which explores fatherhood from the perspective of a deaf father. Now you have the opportunity to visit Dodzi in the dance studio and learn about his work.
Fatherhood
Dodzi's artistic work builds bridges between the deaf and hearing worlds. As a choreographer, he poetically integrates elements of sign language into dance, creating a unique physical language on stage. The residency at Skånes Dansteater is part of the creation of the solo dance performance ‘Fatherhood’. With this performance, Dodzi wants to give a voice to deaf fathers who, after a separation, are often subjected to systematic discrimination and lose contact with their children. Through a powerful mix of sign language, hip hop, crumping and contemporary dance, he explores themes such as exclusion, longing and resilience.
See some of what Dodzi has been working on and hear him talk about his artistry. A unique opportunity to see a work in the creative process. Dodzi is also interested in meet the audience, exchanging ideas, and talk about the piece together.
The sharing and the conversation is interpreted to spoken English and Swedish sign language.
