Workshop: Collective Practice / Contemplative Dance Practice

Skånes Dansteater is delighted to be able to support local dance artist Tuva Hildebrand as she presents her festival "Reshuffling Relations". Over three weeks in March, Skånes Dansteater is one of the venues for several workshops and events.

Contemplative Dance Practice, developed by American dancer and educator Barbara Dilley, is a meditative movement practice that combines dance, improvisation and contemplation. With roots in postmodern dance and influenced by Buddhist meditation, the practice offers a structured but open space for deepened presence.

Through shifts between sitting meditation, movement meditation and improvised dance, participants explore attention, perception and the relationship between inner and outer space. The exercise develops the ability to move with clarity and awareness, while supporting creativity and spontaneity.

The practice does not focus on performance or form, but on the experience of being in motion – allowing the body to become a tool for awareness, expression and anchoring in the present moment.

A simple structure creates a safe space where each participant can explore their own rhythm, energy and authenticity.

No prior knowledge is required – only a curiosity to move and to encounter oneself through dance.
